Historical Records Wanted

HISTORICAL RECORDS WANTED (To the Editor) Sir,-There is ample scope for a compilation of historical records in this district, and it is to be hoped that there will be a ready response to your request for early records before the opportunity passes. Who will tell the story of the early days of Hurstbridge, the old homestead, the remains of which can yet be seen among the buildings of W. H. Gray that granite memorial, eloquent of bushranging days? Follow the winding road north, passing Virtue Hall, the squatting station of W. H. Gray – that granite building built in 1862, now occupied by the Limnmers; then the Bassett homestead. Over the hills to the right is the secluded home of the Lobb family; in the same' quiet valley is situated Hazel Glen, the home of the Reids, with its quaint rambling architecture reminiscent of Old England. What a story a waits the telling! Yours etc., ROBT. M. GREENWOOD., Hurstbridge: August 13, 1932.
Mr Robert Greenwood would be pleased to here that the Hurstbridge and District Local History Group along with a number of other very active history groups in the Shire of Nillumbik and the Whittlesea and Banyule regions are preserving the historical record together with Yarra Plenty Regional Library.
Do you have a story to tell?  Create an account and add it to the Wikinorthia: documenting life in Melbourne’s north portal today.
The library also welcomes donations of any publications relating to our local history including local school annuals.

Flickr

Flickr is one of the leading photo sharing and organising websites.  Once uploaded, via a collaborative process, people can comment and tag your photos.
last week Flickr announced a free terabyte of space.  Just how big is a terabyte?  Flickr describe it as “you could take a photo every hour for forty years without filling one”.
In addition Flickr is now allowing video upload.
Libraries and local history organisationss are already curating their collections online and I predict that these current developments will certainly see more and more digitised content becoming available online via Flickr and other avenues.
