Talk - How to produce a local history book

'How to Produce a Local History Book'
Saturday 26 August 10.30am to 12.00pm
Victorian Archives Centre, 99 Shiel Street, North Melbourne

Cost $5 paid on the day (incl refreshments)

Lorna Hannan of the Hotham History Project produces many history books on
the neighbourhood of North Melbourne...and very successfully too!

PROV is delighted to be offering this seminar / forum, headed by Lorna on
how to research, collate and promote a family or local history book and
how to use oral history from your collection.

When gathering history, how do you decide what is important to the people
in your area? What would they find interesting, and more importantly why
would they buy your book? Do you focus on the original landscape, early
land use, streets and how they were named, buildings or the people who
shaped the community.

There will be plenty of time to ask questions, swap experiences and share
ideas and you are more than welcome to look and the North Melbourne
exhibition and visit the reading room for your own personal research
purposes.

For information and bookings, contact mandy.lowry@dvc.vic.gov.au or phone
03 9348 5600 and ask for the Public Programs section.
