Tim Burstall’s Eltham Characters

The Memoirs of A Young Bastard
Years before he became one of Australia’s best-known film directors, Tim
Burstall lived with his wife Betty in Napier Crescent, Montmorency. Betty
was also to become famous in her own right as the founder of “La Mama”
experimental theatre. The Burstalls were heavily involved in the Eltham
social scene that included the Montsalvat community.

“Tim Burstall’s Eltham characters” are part of a panel discussion at the next meeting of the Eltham District Historical Society Wed 11 September at the Eltham Senior Citizen’s Centre. All welcome

Montsalvat Eltham - Request for Information

Sigmund Jörgensen - former longtime director, current Board Member and Arts & Heritage Advisor and son of Justus Jörgensen - is currently researching a book about the Montsalvat community, with a focus on the people who helped in the construction and development, either as artists, artisans, students or trades people.

Much of Montsalvat revolved around the architecture, the art and of course the food and it is these things that he is currently looking at. Anyone who has any information, anecdotes, photos or stories that they might like to share with Sigmund for possible inclusion in the book can either email them to sigmund.jorgensen@montsalvat.com.au or give him a ring on 0418 549 541 begin_of_the_skype_highlighting 0418 549 541
