Working with Photographs and Negatives
Almost all collecting institutions have photographs of some sort, ranging from print and negative collections to digital collections. This seminar will use a cross- disciplinary approach and explore issues relating to the significance, preservation, management, display and interpretation of photographic collections.

Our own library heritage

An impressive spiral bound brochure from the architectural firm of Leith and Bartlett Pty Ltd has been donated to the Ivanhoe local history collection. Produced about 1971, it includes plans and descriptions of Heidelberg (now Ivanhoe) library, Rosanna Library and the old Eltham library.

1956 Melbourne Olympics Display

The 50th anniversary of the 1956 Melbourne Olympics was recently celebrated. Ivanhoe library has a small display on their stairwell notice board which is worth a look. It includes items from the Banyule Archives Ballard Collection, which were donated by the, then CEO of the Olympic Village.

History of Bundoora and Janefield

Some notes have recently been donated to the local history collection at Mill Park pertaining to the Bundoora State School, foremerly Janefield (no. 1915). These notes were compiled in 1977 by the Research officer in the Education Department.

Victorian Community History Awards 2007

The Victorian Community History Awards 2007, proudly sponsored by Information Victoria are now open.

The Awards aim to develop awareness of community history throughout Victoria. The Awards promote excellence in historical research and acknowledge that history can be presented in a variety of formats.

The Awards comprise a $5,000 first prize and six $1,000 prizes for the category finalists which include:

Best Print / Publication
Best Audio – Visual / Multimedia
Best Exhibit / Display
Best Walk / Tour
Best Community Research, Register and Records
