Victoria Police Gazettes

Compiled to be distributed amongst the Police Force only, Police Gazettes contain details and information that cannot be found anywhere else.

They include court lists, lists of warrants issued, appointments and changes to the Police Service, lists of arrests and discharges and descriptions, escaped prisoners, and missing persons. Also included is information on highway robbery, rewards offered, felonies, stolen property and deserters from merchant vessels. Notices from Police Gazettes from other states and New Zealand are also often included.

Fascinating searching and useful information for anyone interested in Victoria’s history and its people. Entries do tend to be repeated though. An index to the Police Gazette Victoria is progressively being placed on line and copies of pages can be purchased via Old News Copy .
Yarra Plenty Regional Library also have Victorian Gazettes availble on microfiche 1853 - 1870, available in our genealogy collections at Ivanhoe and Diamond Valley libraries.
1876 has also just been released on CD-Rom and is now available for loan.
