Chinese market gardening in the City of Whittlesea

The Whittlesea Heritage Program continues next Thursday August 30. Arthur Yong of the Whittlesea Chinese Association will present a talk on the long history of Chinese settlement in the area. Situated between the Plenty River and Bruce's Creek, on the outskirts of Whittlesea township was a Chinese market garden, farmed by Lee Tack and Percy Ping. The farm employed many Chinese labourers and produced merdicinal crops as well as herbs and vegetables. Mr. Yong is currently writing a book detailing the history of the farm. Come along and learn more.

Thursday August 30 6.30 pm
