Electoral Rolls

2009 marks the 25th anniversary of the Australian Electorial Commission. The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is responsible for conducting federal elections and referendums and maintaining the Commonwealth electoral roll. View a slideshow of historical images on their website.

Electoral rolls are a useful research tool for both family and local history researchers. Ancestry Library edition includes Australian Electoral Rolls, 1901-1936. This database contains selected Australian electoral rolls, with the exception of South Australia. Electoral rolls were compiled by each state during election years to determine the number and names of individuals eligible to vote. Information listed in electoral rolls usually includes: name of voter, gender, address, and occupation.

We also have electoral rolls on microfiche in out collection. Check the catalogue for further details
