Did you know Thomastown and Lalor was called once called Westgarthtown? Why is the ship called the Pribislaw so important to the region?
Westgarthtown is an historic dairy farming settlement established in 1850 by German and Wendish immigrants. It is located within the residential suburbs of Thomastown and Lalor. Many of Westgarthtown's outstanding bluestone heritage buildings and structures still survive.
While its opening hours are temporarily suspended, it has an online schools’ program that can easily be adapted for individual use. It is based on the Victorian Curriculum for years 1- 6 and covers local history, geography plus civics and citizenship. It is a very interesting and accessible program. While it was developed for primary school children, much of the information is interesting for adults as well. It can be downloaded for free on their schools program link.
