Yallambie

Yallambie is one 21 suburbs in the City of Banyule and is perhaps best known for The Australian Radiation Laboratory in Lower Plenty Road. It takes its name from "Yallambie Park", the estate of John and Robert Bakewell from 1840. Th area has transitioned from being located on the edge of the former City of Heidelberg to currently being almost the geographic centre of the City of Banyule. A local resident maintains the blog Yallambie: telling tales of life in the suburb, its history, homes and hyperbole in order to bring the area's history to its residents and a wider audience.
The blog is a rich source of history and anecdotes and recommended to anyone with an historical interest in the City of Banyule.
